One of the worst ideas in the history of public service, if you're too young to remember, yes we had these right here in Binghamton.

Although they still exist as a luxury to people who will go the extra mile, the idea became very popular in the 1960's and became a major issue in the 1970's during the feminist movement.

The idea was to put a lock on the bathroom stall with a coin slot, and charge people a fee to use the bathroom, the (pardon the pun) "going" rate at the time was around 10 cents.

Can you imagine having a full bladder ,or worse a serious case of the back door trots and you don't have any change.

The idea didn't set well, especially for women who felt this was discrimination because they couldn't use the urials.

The American Restroom Association was a proponent of an amendment to the National Model Building Code to allow pay toilets only in addition to free toilets and that's where it stands today.

My Throwback Thursday memory is the Classic Pay Toilet
