One of the all time best selling toys and the official state toy of Pennsylvania was invented by naval engineer, Richard James,in 1943 and marketed in 1945.

I bet you didn't know that the discovery of the Slinky was purely by accident. James was working on springs to use at sea to maintain the stability of instruments while out at sea. One of the springs fell off the table and did its thing and voila! The Slinky was born.

I remember setting it up on our stairs in the hall and watching it tumble all the way to the bottom.

They still make the toy but it’s a different type of metal and most parents opt for the plastic version.

There you have it, my Throwback Thursday memory, the original Slinky.
