Let me start off this blog with a trivia question, what was the first toy ever advertised on television?

That’s right Mr Potato Head. First developed in the late 40’s Mr Potato Head was born on May 1st 1952 when the Hasbro Company manufactured the first ones.

I think most of us have had a Mr Potato or two in our lifetime and our children have played with them too, and given the fact that they are still being made, our children’s children and so on will probably have a memory or two of this toy.

The cool thing about this toy is that you could change his look over and over, ears, nose, hair, mustache etc.

Through the years they have added Mrs Potato Head and accessories like cars, hats, ties and such.

By the way the first Mr Potato Head sold for a whopping $0.98 and contained hands, feet, ears, two mouths, two pairs of eyes, four noses, three hats, eyeglasses, a pipe, and eight felt pieces resembling facial hair. And the original had no body so parents had to provide a real potato for their children to fix the parts on.

I actually remember doing that when I was a kid although I believe they did come with a plastic potato body then.

Mr Potato Head was inducted into the National Toy Hall Of fame in 2000.
