There's no shortage of excitement in the Southern Tier this weekend. From food to boating safety to a concert, you can take in much of the local flavor.

Speaking of flavor, if it's food you want, the Endicott Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity is having a delish chicken barbecue Saturday in the Vestal Public Library parking lot from 11 am to 6 pm. Not only do you get some good food, but you will be contributing to a scholarship fund to help local college bound students.

Also on Saturday, there is a chicken barbecue with a rummage sale at the West Chenango United Methodist Church on 433 Upper Stella Ireland Rd in Binghamton from 9 am til it's all sold out. There's nothing like combining a treasure hunt with food!

To get some exercise on Saturday, slide over to Sunset Lanes in Kirkwood for the Ellie's Hope Bowl-a-rama from 6 to 9 pm. The $15 entry fee includes your shoes, slice of pizza and soda. It benefits the American Cancer Society. If you haven't bowled in a while or never tried, here's a great reason to get off your tush and bowl!

To prepare for water fun this summer, the Chenango County Sheriff's office is holding a boater safety course from 8 am to 4 pm. For those details, call 337-1920. It's always a smart thing to know your boating rules.

If you feel like music, the Main Street Baptist Church, 117 Main Street in Binghamton, is presenting the Dunnemans in concert on Saturday at 7 pm. This program is a variety of music, ministry and fun. A love offering will be taken.

For more  exercise, be part of the 7th Annual Veterans Walk at the Joseph P. Mangan American Legion Post #1194, 363West Service Rd in Binghamton, at 1 pm on Sunday. All proceeds benefit Southern Tier veterans and their families. There wil lbe a chicken barbecue, antique car show, more food, music and more. They fought for us, please walk for them! Registration is from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, with a ceremony and run just after 12:30 pm. I love helping our veterans, I hope you do too.

I have never heard of a Paddle party, but it sounds interesting and the PALS/OAKTREE PTO is hosting one at the BOCES student cafeteria on Sunday. A paddle party is a cool auction involving paddles, quarters and items from many good companies. Try it! Preview of auction items is 1:30 pm and starts at 2 pm.

To wrap up the weekend,on Sunday morning enjoy a donation pancake breakfast at the Leonardsville Fire Department from 7 to 10:30 am. If you can't hang out and socialize, take outs are available.

See? there is plenty to do here! if you have an event coming up, let me know about it, by email.

Enjoy the weekend!
