While most of us see people at work in various professions each day, do we ever stop and think about how much we respect what they do?

Many people would stop and thank a veteran or active military member for their service to our country, and I believe that is the right thing to do.

How many times have we sincerely thanked a bus driver, auto mechanic or even a mailman for bringing us our mail?

A recent survey came out with the top 10 jobs people respect the most and a doctor topped the list, military was second, followed by a fire fighter.

Real Estate Agent came in last, now there is an occupation that requires a lot of hours and commitment.

I think most people tend to respect prestigious positions, like a doctor or a scientist, but Nurse was also in the top 5 ,and again I agree that’s another job that requires commitment.

I am a broadcaster and have been one for most of my adult life, it is without a doubt a unique occupation that requires commitment and dedication to your community, and although it didn’t even make the list anywhere, I can relate to many of the occupations that are not high on the list, that still deserve respect, and I have been thanked many times from people in this area for the work I do on the air each day, and it’s very much appreciated

So the next time you run into your mailman, auto mechanic, handyman that does odd jobs for you, tell them how much you respect and appreciate what they do for you and see how they react.

After all, we are the people in your neighborhood.
