Billboard just released their list of the top 15 highest grossing touring artists from the year 1990 to today and it’s no surprise that 11 of the 15 are artists we play on 991 The Whale.

So why is classic rock so popular? I think the foundation comes from a time of autonomy for the groups and artist, there were fewer record labels and no internet downloads or American Idol, The Voice, etc.

The Electric Guitar, the ultimate classic rock tool, creator of “the Riffs” most of the true kick ass rock songs start with it.

Real Drums from “Wipe Out to “Walk This Way” the sound is much more pleasing to the ear than the digitally sampled sound.

Longevity of the groups and songs through the years have turned on generations of music lovers, I talked to young people all the time that love The Eagles, Pink Floyd and Rush because they grew up listening to them or their dad or mom took them to a concert.

Many of these songs have appeared in movies, played during sporting events and featured in Guitar Hero type games.

The best reason I can some up with, if you’re driving down the road on a nice day would you rather listen to Madonna or AC/DC?  Classic Rock Kicks Ass
