We have had several nasty house fires this winter. If it weren't for the men and women who volunteer to fight them, more lives or property would have been lost.

Sadly, in the last 15 years, the number of brave people who step up and become firefighters has declined by roughly 20,000 in the Southern Tier and the entire State of NY. Realizing this, the Fireman's Association of the State of New York is on a membership drive.

If you have been thinking about it or want to help others, stop by the Dunkin Donuts at 3521 Country Club Road in Endicott at 10:30 this morning. members of the Endwell Fire Department will be there to display rescue equipment and others will be on hand to talk to you.

I remember when my nephew decided to become a firefighter. It was a little over a year ago. He went through the courses and now proudly volunteers at 2 departments in New Jersey.  And I am certainly very proud of him for choosing this difficult job.

You can make a difference to so many with just one decision. Find out more today in Endicott or call your local fire department.
