The Crappie Derby Looks to Be a Go on Valentine’s Day!

The Almost Annual Crappie Derby is one of the coolest events in the Southern Tier.

This year it's going to be romantic too! Somehow, after a postponement, it turns out it should be green lighted for next Saturday. Valentine's Day. Before we go to the lighthearted jokes, I need to share that there is much more to the derby than you think.

There is pancake breakfast to start the day, then as the derby is going on, the National Weather Service has a program, as does the 4H Education Center, the Binghamton Zoo, and search and rescue groups.

This year, there may event be proposals or even a wedding or two! Who knows?

Picture it. The romance of it all. A Crappie Valentine's Day! As couples get ready to flock to the derby, all across the Southern Tier, you will hear "Honey, I love you. Now grab my pole."
Lips will be puckered, but they will be the fish's!

Ah yes! Seriously though. It's a different way to spend the day. Go for it.
