This day in 1967, we were introduced to a band that would become one of the best in the world of rock.

That band is Pink Floyd. The album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn was released August 4th 1967, featuring Syd Barrett, who was the bands original leader. Joining Syd in the band, was Nick Mason, Richard Wright and Roger Waters.

The UK album contained no singles, and the songs were arranged differently between the UK and US releases. Thew UK album contains 11 tracks and the US album has 9. The UK album chart was more kind to the release reaching the number 6 position, but in the US, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn did not do so well, topping out at number 131.

The song See Emily Play, written by Syd Barrett, was included on the US album release only, and that's the song we're highlighting today as we celebrate the album release of The Piper at the Gates of Dawn.
