The results of recent survey of teen use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs and their behavior trends are revealing some interesting trends.

Speaking on the May 14 edition of the weekly, local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up, Heidi Mikeska of the Broome County Promise Zone goes over some of the highs and lows revealed by Broome County School students in grades seven through twelve in the KYDS Coalition 2014-2015 Prevention Needs Assessment Survey.

While much of the discussion involves negative factors like drug and alcohol use, Mikeska points out the anonymous study reveals a number of positives like an increase in community involvement and morality among the teens.

The public can see the general survey results while the participating school districts get more specific information that will be used design proactive programs and activities and interventions for problem areas.

Interested residents can find the survey results at www.gobroomecounty.com or by contacting Mikeska at (607) 778-1146.
