I love Summer. Everything associated with this season is just awesome. Except Mosquitoes.

Those pesky things and gnats annoy the 'you know what' out of me. Gnats don't pose a threat, but mosquitoes can. New York State Public Health Officials have recently found cases of West Nile Virus in Suffolk and Rockland Counties.

Some ways to minimize the breeding areas and keep you safer, include avoiding outdoor activities when those buggers are active the most. Those times are generally from dusk to dawn. Eliminate standing water in your yard. They love hanging around standing water. If you look close enough, you'll probably see them water skiing, playing volleyball and lounging on the beach. OK, maybe I'm getting carried away. But when they get hungry, they're out looking for you!

Repellents help, but are not the end all. Even those bug zappers don't get 'em all. Wearing long sleeves and pants (sucks in Summertime) may help as will lighter colored clothes. Those Mosquitoes love to smell the heat so to speak, and your body is a furnace. They will spot you very quickly. Here's to a bite free Summer!
