“Leaked” ‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ Footage May Be Fake, But It’s Still Cool
Look, there's no way of saying this without sounding mean, but let's be honest: most fan-made stuff kinda sucks. In the wide expanse of the internet, there are thousands of crummy videos and fake trailers and posters for any one thing that's actually worth highlighting and praising. Today, let's take a look at one of those exceptions.
YouTube user Frank Wunderlich took footage gathered from Frankfurt Airport in Germany and gave it a 'Star Wars' spin, transforming a perfectly ordinary hub into a home for TIE Fighters, Star Destroyers, Lambda shuttles and, yes, an under-construction Death Star.
What's most impressive about this video is how naturalistic it all is. Rather than attempt to hide the fact that he's working with relatively dull footage of an average airport, he embraces it. This video is not "Oh no! Oh wow! The Imperial forces are here and they're taking over!" This video is "Well, just another day at this airport that just so happens to be home base for a bunch of science-fiction vehicles from another galaxy." The restraint is charming and makes it stand out in a sea of bad 'Star Wars' fan projects.
Although there are a few rough shots here and there, the bulk of the video is incredibly professional. If he's looking for a job working on 'Star Wars: Episode 7' (and why else would someone spend so many hours making this?), we hope J.J. Abrams gets him a gig at ILM or fetching coffee or polishing droids or something.
