A sure sign of things to come is baseball's spring training.  When pitchers and catchers reported to the New York Mets camp in St. Lucie, Florida on Monday it marked the beginning of a new era in New York.  Mickey Callaway has taken over the managerial duties from Terry Collins.

The Mets' spring training camp could be labelled a giant ?  The team has the potential to be outstanding or poor.

Much of it depends on recovery from injuries.  It is difficult to imagine any Major League team riddled by more injuries than the New York Mets.  How those players recover is the key to the season.

Starting off the Mets on paper have an excellent pitching staff. At least eight potentials starters are looking to lock down jobs.  The problem is many are looking to prove themselves again after injury-plagued seasons.

Among seven potential starting pitchers to start last season with New York Jacob deGrom was the only one not to spend lengthy time on the disabled list.  The ones who suffered through extended injuries included:

Noah Syndergaard returning from a stint on the 60-day disabled list with a torn side muscle;

Matt Harvey returning from arm surgery and finished with a 1-4 showing and an ERA of 11.28 over the last month of the season.

Zack Wheeler still struggling to return to top form after Tommy John surgery in 2015.

Steven Matz shutdown with arm surgery in August.

Seth Lugo looking to recover from a partial torn ligament.

Injuries stretched into the bullpen as well with closer Jeurys Familia looking to recover from an arterial clot in his right (pitching) shoulder).

Looking at the above list...there is a lot of star potential.
The big question how many can take the full season grind in 2018 ?
