As cold weather grips much of New York this winter, state lawmakers are moving forward with a plan to expedite deliveries of propane.

The Assembly has approved new rules on sales allowing dealers to deliver or sell propane to residents who have rented their tanks from other companies, cutting out a delay when the business leasing the tanks out were slowed by demand.

Right now, propane users have found their propane running low but their tank company can’t respond quickly enough leaving them at risk of being without heat.

Demand, of course, spikes during a drastic drop in temperatures.

The bill is now to be considered by the New York State Senate.
