Local volunteers with the American Red Cross are set to help out, not only with the continued recovery efforts from Hurricane Harvey, but with the possible impact of Hurricane Irma, which is barreling toward Florida with 185 mile per hour winds.

So far, 83 disaster relief volunteers from Western and Central New York are working on the recovery efforts in Texas and Louisiana.

The Red Cross has committed to respond as Irma is expected to hit the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico September 6 with landfall also possibly by the weekend in Southern Florida.

Volunteers from Central New York are traveling to a Red Cross Staging Area in Orlando.  Southern Tier volunteers are waiting for orders to drive an Emergency Response Vehicle from Endicott to Florida.

Donations to help the Red Cross with relief efforts can be made by visiting redcross.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS to donate.
