Five people are facing charges after police in Cortland say they found a methamphetamine manufacturing operation in a Groton Avenue apartment.

Police were called when residents say they smelled a strong chemical odor coming from the unit.

Precious Short, Jeffery Stevens, Christopher Gillet, Daniel Gardner and Casey Schunk are charged with possession of a controlled substance, unlawful manufacture of meth and conspiracy.

Everyone in the apartment house was evacuated while emergency crews cleared out the hazardous materials.
