Bob Dylan's '80s output doesn't get a lot of love, but he was plenty busy during the decade, and some of his best recordings from that era are getting the tribute treatment from a diverse array of younger artists.

Titled 'Bob Dylan in the '80s: Volume One,' the new collection is due March 25 and, according to the press release issued by ATO Records, aims to "shed new light on a large cache of Bob Dylan songs that have long gone ignored, covering the period starting with 1980’s 'Saved' and ending with 1990’s 'Under the Red Sky' (including unreleased material — the ''80s Basement Tapes' — and the Traveling Wilburys)."

Much like Dylan himself during the '80s, the album's track listing takes a number of unexpected and somewhat bizarre turns, including a cover of 'Brownsville Girl' from Reggie Watts and a version of 'Wiggle Wiggle' that finds Slash working alongside former Ween singer Aaron Freeman. Overall, the lineup skews in an alternative direction, with appearances from Built to Spill, Deer Tick, and Hold Steady frontman Craig Finn offering their interpretations of Dylan cuts.

"In the famously difficult art of going up against Dylan’s performance of his own material, a number of these reach the highest threshold," argues author Jonathan Lethem in the liner notes. "I hope Bob Dylan listens to this record, and plays it for his current touring band." For more information about 'Bob Dylan in the '80s: Volume One,' visit ATO Records' website.
