I love animals. I've always had dogs and cats growing up and for a while, we even had a rabbit and a hamster as pet. Most people are pet people. Some are cat people, some are dog people, some are both and then there are those that love all animals.

Regardless of what kind of pet person you are, if love pets, you should go to Shelter Slam. It's a day long event featuring 25 local rock bands donating their time to help raise money and gather food for a bunch of local animal shelters.

The first one this year is this Saturday starting at noon at Endwell Greens. It's $10 to get in or the equal value in pet food. Since 2010 Shelter Slam had raised about 70k for local shelters as well as countless pounds of dog and cat food.

Some of the bands that will be playing Saturday are Wreckless Marci, Kickstart, O.C.D., Rize and Recycled Zombies (who have played every Shelter Slam) just to name a few. The full is on their website.

Some of the shelters that will be receiving the proceeds include; S.P.E.A.K., Every Dog's Dream, Jimmy J's, Pibbles and More, Willow's Wings, A.M.P.S., and the Broome County Humane Society.

It's starts at Noon and goes... until it ends, probably around mid-night or so. So if you are looking for something to do on Saturday, why not check out a few bands and help our furry little friends at the same time.
