As Velvet Revolver continue their low-priority search for a lead singer to replace Scott Weiland, Slash spoke about two of the men who came close to joining, former Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach and Corey Taylor of both Slipknot and Stone Sour.

During a video question-and-answer session with Rolling Stone Australia (embedded above), Slash revealed that Bach was considered for the role even before Weiland. "I love Sebastian," he said. "But, if you can imagine, it sounded sort of like Skid N' Roses. It was cool, but you knew that everybody who heard it was gonna be, like, 'Oh, yeah, that makes sense.' It was a little bit too predictable."

The band had even recorded with Taylor in 2010, but eventually decided to go in a different direction. "Everybody was rallying for him," Slash continued. "And I love Corey to death, but something about it was just a little bit too – what's the word for it? You know how Corey sings. It's a very macho kind of thing. But it didn't have certain elements I thought it needed. So we just didn't go down that path. And that was the closest so far."

Back in 2011, drummer Matt Sorum spoke about the sessions with Taylor. "Slash just didn’t see it like the rest of us did," he said. "We liked it. We had 10 songs. [We] could put the album out tomorrow. It’s done. I said, ‘Let’s go.’ But Slash wasn’t feeling it. If we’re not all feeling it together, we can’t do it.”
