Authorities say the incident involving a Schoharie Central School District bus happened around 11:05 a.m. on Monday in the town of Duanesburg.

According to New York State Police, the bus was westbound on the highway when the bird flew directly into the path of the vehicle. The bald eagle struck the bus windshield.

A statement released by the school district indicated the bus was transporting 19 students from a BOCES technology program back to their high schools.

The students and driver were not hurt. After the crash, they were transported by another bus.

Investigators say the deceased bird was found along the roadway. Troopers contacted the state Department of Environmental Conservation which sent workers to remove the eagle.

The school bus was towed from the scene because of the damage it sustained in the collision.
