Scam Avoidance on Southern Tier Close Up
Delaware County Undersheriff Craig DuMond says it's the time of year for scam artists to flood the area with well-rehearsed scams.
Speaking on the November 19 edition of the local, weekly public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up, the Undersheriff highlights some of the more prevalent scams both on-line and off line and gives advice on how to avoid being a victim.
DuMond says it is astounding that, in spite of repeated warnings and news stories about people who have been "taken", people still falls for things like the IRS threat scam and the Grandparent Scam.
DuMond tells people they should notify police immediately and it's best not to call back a provided phone number since the scammer may be able to "phish" information off the would-be victim's phone.
The Undersheriff says the scammers are so convincing, often using established company names or even law enforcement organizations to try to part people from their money.
Southern Tier Close Up can be heard Saturdays at 6am on 99.1 The Whale.
