Roger Waters Announces New Album, ‘Is This The Life We Really Want?’

After teasing his first album of new material in 25 years last month with a brief clip, Roger Waters has announced the title of that upcoming LP.

There’s no release date for Is This The Life We Really Want?, but Waters’ Facebook page promises the album is “coming soon.” He’s again teasing the project with a video — this one runs 40 seconds and features, presumably, music from the record.

The preview, with its sampled news reports, hints that Is This The Life We Really Want? may be another concept album by Waters, whose three previous solo records — 1984’s The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking, 1987’s Radio K.A.O.S. and 1992’s Amused to Death, the most recent — all followed thematic ties.

Plus, Waters was the mastermind behind Pink Floyd‘s concept records such as Animals, The Wall and The Final Cut before his departure from the band in 1985.

Waters said last year he was reconsidering the album’s original direction, after producer Nigel Godrich helped sharpen the focus from “a long, meandering piece that was a radio play with about a dozen songs in it” to a more worldly theme. “It’s pondering not just why we are killing the children, it’s also the question of how do we take these moments of love – if we are granted any in our lives – and allow that love to shine on the rest of existence, on others,” Waters explained.

Is This The Life We Really Want? could be out before the end of May, when Waters starts his Us + Them North American Tour. He’s promised some Pink Floyd songs in the set (just look at the tour’s title), but we can’t imagine him hitting the road without playing songs from his new album.

Tickets for the shows are available now at Waters’ website. You can see the full list of tour dates below.
