According to the readers of Guitar World magazine, Eddie Van Halen is the greatest guitarist of all time.

The magazine did something different to determine this list, rather than just take reader votes.
They went with a knock-out round format, featuring a list of 132 guitarists.

Mr. Van Halen knocked out Jake E Lee, Michael Schenker, Slash, Randy Rhoads, Joe Satriani, Alex Lifeson and lastly Brian May.
