Last week, the nominees for the 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame were announced, so today I thought I'd talk about the selection.

The nominees include:

  • The Cars
  • Cheap Trick
  • Chic
  • Chicago
  • Deep Purple
  • Janet Jackson
  • The JB's
  • Chaka Khan
  • Los Lobos
  • Steve Miller
  • Nine Inch Nails
  • N.W.A
  • The Smiths
  • The Spinners
  • Yes

Let me say Chicago, Deep Purple, and Yes should have been in years ago, while Steve Miller, The Cars, Cheap Trick, and The Spinners are great nominees.

I realize there are standouts in this category that may not have been around as long as the above mentioned. This includes Nine inch Nails, to which you could make an argument.

However, the biggest middle finger to the category goes to NWA. This is a group of thugs that promoted violence on the music industry, with songs like F** the Police and One Less B***h. What's even more disturbing and insulting NWA has been nominated four times, while LL Cool J has been nominated only three.

Here are just a few groups that have NEVER even been considered:

  • Bad Company
  • Doobie Brothers
  • Def Leppard
  • Dire Straits
  • Emerson Lake Palmer
  • Guess Who
  • Jan & Dean
  • Jethro Tull
  • Journey
  • The Moody Blues
  • Motley Crue
  • Ozzy Osbourne
  • Steppenwolf
  • T Rex
  • Thin Lizzy
  • Tommy James and the Shondells
  • The Zombies

Rock and roll was a term to describe as a mixture of country music with rhythm and blues, first coined by Ohio disc jockey, Alan Freed. There is a list of others that could fill my studio and I would lobby for every one of them before I would even consider a foul offensive group like NWA.

If you're going to allow groups and artist like this on the ballot, then change the name to the Music Hall of Fame, but don't insult the great rockers with this foul mouthed garbage.
