Thanks to Restaurant Week, I love trying new foods! I never would've strayed from the "same old, same old" before. Boy did I stray when my friend Kathy and I went to the River Bistro! It is inside the now Doubletree Hotel on Water Street. The dining area is full of windows and airy. Comfy!

I never had a truffle in my life and yet, there it was in my delicious loaded potato soup. Kathy and I were pleasantly surprised by the mix of sweet and salty. The presentation was appetizing.

For our entrees, Kathy had their take on a Reuben sandwich with fries. There was an extra kick in the thousand island dressing. The fries were very flavorful, so when we asked what the secret was, the lovely Kendra, one of our servers, told us they are cooked in truffle oil. Well, that's what I heard, then Kathy told me it is too expensive and is drizzled over the fires. I get it now. That explained it! We were over the moon or those.

I had something uniquely prepared; the chicken pot pie. It was not the type you are thinking of, as this was served in a bowl and had puff pastry on top. They added tarragon to make it flavorful. I think I have only had tarragon twice in my life!

Kathy and I were waited on by a good team at the River Bistro: Kendra, Michelle, Charlotte and Alex. They were attentive and just plain friendly.

Kathy and I couldn't pass up on dessert, naturally. She had the Tiramisu and I had the Fall Apple Turnover Ala Mode. We were happy. Both were delish.

Honestly, I did not know the River Bistro existed, but I am glad I know now! The meal was terrific.  Binghamton Restaurant Week continues through the 26th, so take advantage! Dinners are $25 or less and lunches are $10. You can't beat it. Binghamton has some wonderful restaurants waiting to be discovered by you.
