Repairs Underway at Binghamton’s Front Street Flood Wall

The crumbling flood wall protecting the First Ward neighborhood in Binghamton is getting some attention.

The rehabilitation work is being done in conjunction with the ongoing Front Street Gateway project.

The job includes replacement of bad concrete and rebar sections. A new concrete façade that faces the roadway is being completed. Weatherproof sealing also will be applied to the structure.

According to Binghamton City Hall, all work related to the project's excavation was permitted and approved by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

A DEC spokesman said the agency issued a Flood Control Land Use permit to the city for the concrete rehabilitation.

Crews from G. DeVincentis and Son Construction of Binghamton have been working on the flood wall repairs in recent weeks.

Front Street between Clinton and Prospect streets has been open for limited local traffic over the past few days.
