I heard about bear maulings over the weekend. And this morning. The way  the national reporters talked about it, you'd think the bears are rising up to slaughter all humans.

As we get to the time of year where bears are looking for spots to hibernate, there will be encounters. We are encroaching on their lands remember, so it is up to humans to be cautious.

I think the news media needs to back off the sensationalism and put out useful information like how to handle encounters. Those of us who live in rural areas know if we leave them alone, they will do the same. No biggie! Apparently these reporters are city folk who need a lesson in nature.

There is no "bearmageddon" and there won't be. It's just nature doing its thing. Here's a reminder on how to treat encounters, from a clueless reporter!
