You can't say there is nothing to do in the winter in the Twin Tiers.

Education coordinator for the Kopernik Observatory and Science Center, Roy Williams, appearing on Saturday's edition of the weekly local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up, goes over some of the many winter programs being offered at the center on Underwood Road in Vestal.

The mysteries of comets, viewing of the Geminid Meteor Shower, deep space views that can only be seen with the professional equipment at Kopernik and even a birthday Winter Star Party to celebrate Mikolaj Kopernik are on the schedule.

Williams also talks about some of the interesting quirks of working at the observatory and fielding questions from the public.

Southern Tier Close Up can be heard Sunday at 6am on 99.1 The Whale.
