Rain forecast over the region the next few days is not expected to have much of an impact on the danger of brush and grass fires.

Southern Tier firefighters continue to be called out to deal with out-of-control fires in the region in spite of a ban on open burning in New York State until May 14th and a permanent, year-round ban on burning garbage.

Authorities blame a blaze that burned grass, spread into the woods and a garage in Killawog on a person burning garbage.

The cause of a fire April 24 on Oak Hill Road in the Town of Chenango is still being investigated.  That blaze spread from brush to a barn, burning through the roof of the structure and resulting in the building being declared a total loss.

There have been no reports of injuries in any of the brush and grass fires so far.
