Last year the South discovered that even with proper warning, you can get caught (and stuck) in the middle of a snowstorm.

Buffalo had the same problem last month during that nasty, 7 foot snow fall.

If you ended up stuck on a packed roadway in the snow, would you have the supplies necessary to survive? Most would say no, so let's change that!

Here is a list of items that you should have available in your car during the winter months. If your trunk is not accessible through the back seat, keep them secured in your back seat area. I saw someone who had most everything in a plastic tote and nicely stowed away. Great idea!

1. 3-5 gallons of water

2. Blankets or a sleeping bag - Have at least 2!

3. Change of clothing - Make sure it's winter clothing! Also have 2 pairs of socks and thermal under clothes as well.

4. A spare hat, gloves and a scarf - Just in case the ones you're wearing get wet.

5. Non-perishable food - Don't forget a can opener!

6. Cell phone trickle charger - Keep it on you and charged at all times when traveling in winter.

7. Flash light, battery powered radio, and a car emergency kit - Pack extra batteries for these items!

8. Tow chain or rope

9. Shovel - You can buy retractable handled models for easy storing.

Lastly, before any winter storm moves in, make sure your gas tank is at least half full!

Stay safe out there!
