Detectives looking into the death of a Binghamton University sophomore have provided additional information developed by their investigation.

According to Vestal police Lieutenant Christopher Streno, 21-year-old Luke Stempa is believed to have died as the result of a drug overdose. He did not say what drug was involved.

Police were called to the U-Club apartment complex at University Plaza on the Vestal Parkway East at 8:54 p.m. Wednesday. A caller reported there was an unresponsive person in an apartment.

When officers arrived, they discovered the resident of Great Neck, Long Island, deceased.

An autopsy was performed Thursday at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City. Streno earlier said Stempa may have been dead for about 24 hours before his body was found.

In a news release issued Friday, police said "at this time there is no suspicion of foul play nor is this death considered a suicide."

Investigators still want to speak with anyone who may have had contact with Stempa on Tuesday. The Vestal police detective division may be contacted at 607.754.2477.
