Almost two months after reports of street robberies in the City of Binghamton, a suspect is being charged in at least one of those incidents.

City Police say 20 year old Zaheer Rasheed of Frackville, Pennsylvania was chased by officers on foot on Lyon Street in Binghamton last week then found hiding in an attic crawl space under building insulation at a house on that street.

He is charged in an attempted robbery that happened at 12:19 a.m. April 2nd at Chapin and Pine Streets and remains the sole suspect in a separate, completed armed robbery that was reported at 11:11 p.m. April 1 on Chenango Street.

Police say while Rasheed is actually charged with attempted robbery in the Chapin Street incident where the act was interrupted by another citizen on the street, he has yet to be charged in connection with the successful heist on Chenango Street where a suspect approached a man walking on the sidewalk and asked to use his phone.  After a brief exchange, the suspect pulled a handgun from his pocket and demanded the victim’s money and phone.

As authorities continue to develop information in connection with both incidents, they ask anyone who may have some useful details to contact the Detective Division at (607) 772-7080.
