Last year was the first time I made it to Owego's Lights on the River.

It's a cute little festival in downtown Owego that celebrates the Christmas season. There is plenty to do for everyone, especially children at this free event.

You can meet Santa's reindeer, yes live reindeer, in the parking lot of M&T Bank. At 5 p.m. there will be free chili and cider to benefit the Owego post-prom party. That takes place in front of M&T Bank.

The children can even write letters to Santa at the Black Cat Gallery. That takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. The Owego Kiwanis Club will be serving hot cocoa and donuts by the Barleycorn at 5:30. The VFW will be serving hot cider, chili, grilled sausages, and more from 5:30 till 7:30.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there as well. And at around 8 p.m. by the courthouse, Santa will flip the switch to turn the holiday lights on going up and down the streets of Owego. Once the holiday lights are lit, the fireworks display will start.

Last year, Chris and I, along with two other couples, went out to the event not knowing what to expect. We ended up eating dinner and enjoying a few drinks at a restaurant and then we hung out for the rest of the festivities.

It's something that both kids and adults can enjoy and it will definitely put you in the holiday spirit.

Check out Owego's website for more information and pictures from last year's festival.
