Once again technology is combining two of the biggest inventions of the 20th century, television and the internet. Samsung has announced that their smart TV’s will run on its own Tizen operating system.

This means that many devices will be compatible with the OS, including Bluetooth technology, certain apps and future types designed for smart TV’s.

Movie ticket sales are the lowest they have been in the past ten years and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist (or morning radio personality) to see we are heading towards a merger with home entertainment via the web.

Sony pictures released, 'The Interview', online and generated $15 million in sales; the most successful to date!

When I was a kid we had a small black and white television in our living room, complete with 4 channels and rabbit air antennas. Most people growing up in the late 60’s, early 70’s, never envisioned the huge high definition televisions of today.

Netflix, Amazon and many others are developing movie channels that are compatible with smart TV’s so it only stands to reason that someday soon we will be able to pick and choose what channels and types of entertainment we want, and not the channels we are forced to take by our providers.

I’m not knocking the providers, they give us some quality programming, but I feel a bit overcharged sometimes based on my personal programming choices, some may like 400 channels, I’ll do just fine with 8 to 10, thank you.

So will movie theaters become as obsolete as drive–ins?  I think technology is making the movie experience bigger and better at home, so a side from overpriced snacks, why would anyone want to go see a movie that they could enjoy on their nice big HD sound surround television?
