There are a few reasons why the Finger Lakes are a much better summer vacation spot than the shore points. Traffic nightmares are not as common, they are closer and not as chaotic. Also, you are helping our Upstate economy. The biggest reason, though, has shown itself just this week.

Great White Sharks!

Yep. You won't find any at Sylvan Beach or Skaneateles. But you will find them off the coast of New Jersey and elsewhere. As a matter of fact, one showed up just a couple days ago and grabbed the bait off a fishing boat!

Except for that one time, in the now named Shark River in New Jersey, sharks aren't going to anywhere near fresh water.

There are apparently enough cruising around the waters of the East Coast this summer to make it fun for marine biologists and trackers.
