On this day in rock history, Aerosmith did something really cool – though we're not sure if it was only because Steven Tyler was at risk of losing his legendary scarves.

It seems the cops raided an Aerosmith concert at Fort Wayne, Ind., rounding up dozens of kids with pot, but also Tyler's seamstress. (She just happened to be lighting up a regular cigarette when the authorities arrived.) An outraged Aerosmith offered to bail everyone out, and eventually paid approximately $4,200 on behalf of those arrested in a separate court appearance.

The Who's The Who by Numbers arrived with a great interactive album cover design, while Genesis continued their march from pioneering progsters to huge pop stars with the release of a self-titled album. "That's All," the second of five singles plucked from this project, became Genesis' first-ever Billboard Top 10 hit.

The Police were also ready to go supernova, as Zenyatta Mondatta sent them to the Top 10 for the first time, as well. Meanwhile, Keith Richards' Talk is Cheap might just have saved the Rolling Stones.
