There will be no video or still pictures from the latest Calvin Harris murder trial.

A challenge of a Schoharie County Judge’s ruling that media coverage would be allowed only for opening statements, closing arguments and the verdict has been upheld by the New York State Court of Appeals that issued a stay on the coverage.

Harris is accused of killing his wife, Michele, on September 11 of 2001 at their home in the Tioga County town of Spencer. The woman’s body has never been found.

Cal Harris has been convicted twice of murder with both verdicts thrown out on appeal. His latest trial was moved to Schoharie County as the defense argued that years of publicity locally made it impossible to seat an unbiased jury in the Southern Tier.

Two more jurors were selected January 23 to hear the case, bringing the panel to six.  Jury selection continues January 26 and the trial is expected to last at least through the month of February.

Harris was first convicted in 2007 and the decision was overturned when a witness came forward claiming he had seen Michele alive hours after the prosecution had claimed she had been murdered.

The former Owego car dealer was again convicted in 2009.  That decision was thrown out over procedural questions and an issue with a jury that later admitted to having a pre-trial opinion on the case.
