The long-awaited Main Street resurfacing project in Johnson City and Westover is underway.

Work on the job to repave a two-mile-long section of Route 17C started last week near the Home Depot store.

Crews have been heading west with the resurfacing operations being done at night to minimize traffic disruption.

Workers say some people who live nearby have been complaining about the noise generated from the paving equipment.

Drivers who use Main Street and Johnson City officials have been looking forward to the resurfacing project.

In recent years, some spot patching was done to address some of the roughest sections of the street.

Progress on the resurfacing project has been slowed a bit by the rainy weather. But more than half of the planned work has been completed and the job is expected to be finished within a few days.
