An incumbent New York State Senator seeking reelection is announcing a bill he says will strengthen the ‘Move-Over’ law.

Republican Thomas Libous of Binghamton has announced the Crash Zone Safety Act that would require drivers to not only slow down and move over for emergency and hazard vehicles but would establish a 500 foot emergency speed zone and stiffer penalties for violators around crash sites.

Emergency responders say the buffer zones could improve the safety of workers at the scene of crashes on highways where traffic is often going over 55 miles an hour.
