Pennsylvania has played host to the spotted lantern fly since 2014. This year the invasive species of insect has created tons of trouble for our neighbors to the south.

There have been confirmed sightings of adult spotted lantern flies in Albany and Yates Counties in the last few weeks. One fly was located inside a car and another on a private lake property.

Spotted lantern flies can wreak havoc on all types of trees like maple and apple. They also can ruin hops.

HOPS! Yes they can ruin some of your favorite beers. Officials in NYS say that these flies have the potential to ruin forests and farms.

Officials urge New York residents to report potential sightings to spottedlanternfly@dec.ny.gov.
