New York has many parks, lakes and trails to explore and several are within a few hours or less from home.

My wife and I have made many trips to Sylvan Beach just east of Syracuse, about 90 minutes from greater Binghamton, it has some nice restaurants with music during the summer months, Verona State park is right there too, so you can camp and enjoy the area and beautiful scenery.

Alexandria Bay in the Thousand Islands region is another beautiful place to visit, you can take a cruise on the Saint Lawrence river and tour the Boldt Castle. I would recommend getting a room for the night. It is about a 2 and a half hour drive.

The finger lakes region is another of the beautiful getaways that are within that two hour or less window, Cayuga, Seneca, Skaneateles are among the best of the region and there is also the Belhurst Castle and Watkins Glen State park

Last summer we filled up the tank with gas and headed to the Ithaca area. There we explored the gorges and enjoy the beautiful waterfalls in Robert H Treman Park in Ithaca, as well as Taughannock Falls State Park in Trumansburg.
