December 31, the base wage for workers in most of the state will be $11.10 and top out at $12.50 at the end of 2020.

Employers in New York City that have 11 workers or more will be paying $15 in the New Year, an increase of $2 an hour.

The New York State Department of Labor also has set up a hotline for workers to report bosses who are not complying with the minimum wage increase.  That number is 1-888-4-NYSDOL.

Some business groups had lobbied legislators against the minimum wage saying they would have to close, cut work staff or increase prices.

Groups representing labor, on the other hand, argued for the right to earn a living wage.
