What's in a New Year's resolution? Other than a pledge to yourself that you will add an act or two of self improvement, beginning on January 1st.

The most common resolutions include, losing weight, exercising more, eating healthier, get a better job, and volunteerism in an effort to help others.

Most of us go into the new year with a strong start, but fail miserably within a matter of weeks or sometimes days. How does this happen?

I can't specifically say how, but I think I have a good idea of why!

Making a New Year's resolution is more than just a prediction of what you're going to do, it has to be an overall 'lifestyle' change in order to be most effective.

I also feel we need to look at the big picture when pledging to improve upon our lives, such as leading a healthier lifestyle, which is one of the most popular choices for resolutions.

Science has proven that diet and exercise not only leads to a longer life, but a better quality of life too, and the same with smoking and it's unhealthy results. So in addition to a lifestyle choice, it can also be a sense of desperation for some. Heart disease, cancer, alcoholism and obesity can be inherent, so pardon the pun you have to weigh it for yourself.

How important is your resolutions and are you willing to make a lifestyle change?

Happy New Year and best of luck with your personal goals in 2016!
