New Delaware County K9 Program To Aid The Sheriff’s Department
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Department’s new K-9 program is getting some help thanks to some hungry residents, the Deputy Sheriff’s Police Benevolent Association and the Delhi Firehouse.
A pancake breakfast fundraiser was held March 8th at the firehouse to benefit the county K-9 division, which is only a few months old.
The event raised $1,530 and even saw Sheriff Thomas Mills flipping the flap jacks.
One of the stipulations of establishing the K-9 unit, that consists of Deputy John Demeo and his canine, Osman Steele, better known as ‘Ozzie’, was that it would be supported by private contributions.
Ozzie has been credited with alerting officers to drugs on numerous occasions, starting with a drug bust on just his first few week on the job.
The Sheriff’s Office web page has an icon devoted to the K-9 unit, including information about Ozzie.
The Delaware County Sheriff's Office continues to accept donations to keep the unit operating.
