National Chocolate Cupcake Day is Today and Other Nonsense

Every day is a National something or other day. Some make sense. Some are just nonsense. Day is a mixed bag of both.

According to National Day Calendar, today is National Chocolate Cupcake Day, National No Beard Day and National Get Smart About Credit Day, among others.

Let's first tackle the cupcake. Why is it so specific as a chocolate cupcake? Why not just cupcake day? Oh wait, there is a day for that, and it's December 15th according to the National Day Calendar, although it states the day is unofficial.

Cupcakes are delicious, but messy. I have never met a cupcake that didn't fall apart and land on my shirt. Damn you cupcake. Let me quote a famous line from the NBC sitcom The Office, where accountant Kevin Malone stated "Mini cupcakes? As in the mini version of regular cupcakes? Which is already a mini version of cake? Where does it end with you people?"

Moving on, what about this National No Beard Day? Is is a prequel to No Shave November? National Day Calendar doesn't give a particular reason for the day. I am not a fan of beards, so go forth and be clean shaven. Or not.

Lastly, there's the National Get Smart About Credit Day. National Day Calendar explains that the day is all about responsible credit habits. Makes good sense, but it's far too late for me. The day I discovered the credit card, my financial health went down the tubes, and today I lie in a bed of debt. Isn't it the American way? Just doing my duty for the 29 percent interest rate. Oh, and don't get me started on late payment fees.
