NASCAR is taking some heat for safer barrier issues to start the season.

Jeff Gordon took a hard hit on the inside wall during last weekend's race at Atlanta. It is his second hard hit in less than a year involving a wall not equipped with a safer barrier.

Gordon was very vocal about tracks not adding more safer barriers. Let's put it this way, NASCAR couldn't ignore his statements. Gordon is on his farewell season and that carries weight.

Other drivers added pressure to the conversation using social media, including Brad Keselowski. He noted the strides that have been made and the strides to take.

The safety issue took center stage during Daytona Speed Weeks when Kyle Busch hit a wall without a safer barrier and broke his leg and a foot.

It will be interesting to see how NASCAR and the affiliated tracks move forward on the issue. We will keep you posted.
