Village Police Chief Patrick Garey said the session will be offered to the general public on June 8 at 5:30 p.m. The program will be presented in the Endicott Police Department conference room.

People interested in the class must pre-register by calling 607.757.2486 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays. The session will be offered to the first 30 people who register.

The training program will explain the use of Narcan, which is a nasal spray form of naloxone that is administered following an opioid overdose or suspected overdose.

The session is sponsored by the village of Endicott, the Southern Tier AIDS Program and Truth Pharm.

Narcan and naloxone frequently are used by police officers and medics to prevent overdose deaths.

The antidote now is being sold over-the-counter by many pharmacies. Friends and relatives of heroin users have saved lives by administering Narcan before medical help arrives.
