New Live Sets Highlight Moody Blues’ Appearances at Isle of Wight, Montreux

Moody Blues Isle of Wight and Montreux
Eagle Rock Entertainment

Moody Blues fans can witness the band in their turn-of-the-70s proto-prog glory, and then explore the way many of those same songs have stood the test of time, across the span of two new concert releases — one from the Isle of Wight in 1970, and the other from Montreux in 1991.

To be issued in tandem on May 21, the concerts will be available as DVD/CD sets from Eagle Rock Entertainment. Featured songs include ‘Question,’ ‘Nights in White Satin,’ ‘Tuesday Afternoon,’ ‘Ride My See Saw’ and ‘I’m Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band),’ as well as later pop successes like ‘Your Wildest Dreams.’

The show that comprises ‘Live at the Isle of Wight 1970′ — which followed the release of ‘A Question of Balance’ — saw the Moodies performing before a crowd that was estimated at more than half a million. This DVD also includes a 20-minute documentary.

The Moody Blues performance that makes up ’Live at Montreux 1991′ marks their lone appearance at the celebrated festival and includes original multi-instrumentalist Ray Thomas, who has since departed. The band continues with drummer Graeme Edge, who co-founded the Moodies in 1964, along with bassist John Lodge and Justin Hayward — who joined two years later.

Eagle Rock also recently released Hayward’s new solo album, ‘Spirits of the Western Sky.’ In February he told Ultimate Classic Rock all about the creation of the songs — as well as the possibility of new music from the Moody Blues — in an exclusive interview.
