A Chenango County man, who was found alive after being missing for eight days, has passed away.

81 year old Alfred Turshman was reported missing August 15 and was located by searchers in a wooded area about a mile from his home in the Town of German August 22.

Turshman, who had a degree of dementia, was said to be conscious and recognized family members when he was found.

Authorities say he suffered from hypothermia but no major injuries. Turshman was taken to Wilson Hospital and had been reported in fair condition, but family members say he passed away at around 10 p.m. August 22.

The family says Turshman had expressed gratitude for everyone who joined in the search for him. They said they were also grateful for the efforts of searchers and were thankful they had one more opportunity to spend with Turshman before he passed away.

Calling hours will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home in Cincinnatus August 26 from 4 to 7 p.m.  Funeral services will be held August 27 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

The family requests that donations in lieu of flowers be sent to the Cincinnatus Fire Department, care of Treasurer Robin Neal, PO Box 278, Cincinnatus, NY 13040 or the Cincinnatus Emergency Squad, care of Elaine Oros, 5771 McFarlane Road, Cincinnatus, NY 13040.
