The authorities in the Southern Tier are not reporting any big trouble with flooding due to ice jams in the region but there are spots where water has spilled over river and stream banks.

A Flood Warning was issued until 8:20 p.m. January 24 for the Susquehanna River at Vestal.  The National Weather Service at 7 a.m. reported the river at 18.1’, .1’ above the flood stage.

As of 5 a.m. January 24, the National Weather Service said there was a flood warning for a small part of the Chenango River at Greene where the flood stage is 13’, but an ice jam has pushed the water level just above that to 13.1’.  No structures were reported threatened and NOAA officials say the situation was due for evaluation again later in the day.

The water level in Windsor on the Susquehanna River has fallen below flood stage.  At around 1 p.m. January 23, the water was backing up along the Occanum Creek near the confluence with the Susquehanna.  In that situation, at least one property was said to have been taking on water.

Officials with the National Weather Service early January 24 said the water had fallen three feet below flood stage in Windsor.

The north side of Hickories Park in the Town of Owego, including the Dog Park, is closed due to high water conditions.  The park shut down at 3 p.m. January 23 and officials say it will stay closed until further notice.
